How to Optimise Your Email Delivery

Optimising your email delivery is about ensuring your messages reach the people who want to hear from you, while building trust and connections that feel valuable and personal. Here are some practical tips to help you get your emails into inboxes and make a lasting impact.

1. Keep Your Email List Fresh and Relevant
Regularly updating your email list ensures you're reaching people who are genuinely interested in your message. Think of it as spring-cleaning your contacts—removing inactive or incorrect addresses to ensure your emails land where they’ll be appreciated.

Group your contacts into segments based on their interests, so each group receives content that feels tailored just for them.

2. Build Trust with Email Providers
Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your domain. These might sound technical, but they’re simply ways to say, “Hey, this is really us!” to email providers, helping your messages avoid the spam folder.

Use a custom email address with your business domain (like you@yourcompany.com) so recipients know it’s authentic.

3. Create Content People Will Love
Send emails that add value, whether it’s a tip, a story, or something inspiring. When people enjoy what they receive, they’re more likely to open and engage.

Add a touch of personalisation, like using their name and suggesting things that match their interests. The more it feels personalised, the stronger the connection.

4. Make Your Subject Line Shine
A clear and inviting subject line is like a warm welcome. Avoid all caps or words like “FREE” that might seem spammy. Instead, use words that genuinely reflect what’s inside, creating curiosity and excitement.

5. Balance Text and Images for a Friendly Layout
Think of your email layout as a “greeting card” to your readers. A balance of text and images keeps it visually appealing and easy to read.

Keep image files light to help your email load quickly, and always add alt text (short descriptions) for your images so everyone can enjoy the message.

6. Find Your Ideal Frequency and Timing
Don’t overdo it. Find a rhythm that keeps your emails feeling fresh and welcome, not overwhelming. Listening to feedback and adjusting can make all the difference.

Experiment with different send times to see when your readers are most likely to open your emails. When you find the right time, more people will connect with your message.

7. Encourage Interaction and Connection
Invite your readers to reply, ask questions, or participate in a quick poll. When people interact with your emails, it signals to providers that your messages are valuable and it strengthens the personal bond.

Keep the content easy to read, with clear Calls-To-Action (CTAs) that guide readers on how to respond or learn more.

8. Test, Track, and Improve
A little trial and error goes a long way! Test different subject lines, layouts, and send times to see what resonates best with your audience.

Monitor your open rates, click rates, and feedback to understand what works. Learning as you go helps you create even better experiences for your readers.

With these tips, you’ll be optimising not just for deliverability but for a more meaningful, impactful connection with your audience. When you approach email marketing thoughtfully, your messages aren’t just “emails” in an inbox; they’re moments of connection that build loyalty and inspire action.
